Moto madman Austin Vince is back with another Mega Mondo event for 2025. This is an event that’s aimed at big-bore adventure motorcycles, with more creature comfort than his usual tours. See his promo for the trip above, with 100 percent authentic and genuine testimonials from his past customers…
In case you don’t know who Austin Vince is, he and his chums traveled around the world a couple of times on Suzuki DR350s, once in the mid-’90s and another time in the early ’00s, and made cracking films about those rides (see our review here; he also appeared on The Lowdown Show here). More recently, he has been running motorcycle tours and navigation events in Spain, mostly focused around low-budget camping and riding goat paths on small bikes.
But some people want to take their big bikes on tour, and other people want hotels at night, not army-style bivouacs. With that in mind, we now have the Mega Mondo tour running its third and fourth events this summer, on June 2-7 and June 9-14.
These are 500-mile trips over five days, so obviously you are not setting a jet-like pace on pavement all day. Straight from the event’s website, here’s what to expect:
Mega Mondo is a point-to point route across northern Spain. Created uniquely by me. It does NOT include any elements pf other routes (TET, ACT etc). The route is about 500 miles but the start and finish are actually only about 300 road miles apart.
Mega Mondo is a guided tour designed to be accessible to moderately experienced trail-riders on big adventure bikes. It is about 80% tar vs 20% dirt-track, by distance. The off-asphalt sections are NOT guaranteed easy forest roads a la Alcan Highway. Equally, they are NOT gnarly ‘single-track’ a la enduro and trials.
On the assumption that someone is on a BIG adventure bike then:
An experienced street rider, with zero, trail-riding experience should NOT attend this week.
An experienced street rider with SOME trail-riding experience MIGHT cope with this week.
An experienced trail-rider will EASILY cope with this week.
Five days guided trail-riding in Northern Spain staying in a building each night. Much of the accom is ‘fancy’ and priced accordingly.
There is ZERO guarantee of a single room. You cannot access this trip if you require a single room each night.
100% teamwork. You MUST be a fairly competent trail-rider to be able to access the route we have designed. If you are even vaguely nervous on a trail bike then this is not for you. Instead, attend the fantastic Mondo Skill Builder!
It will be intense and tiring with little privacy or molly-coddling. However, it will be an unforgettably positive experience with the risk of death and serious injury. There is no mechanical recovery, first-aid, emergency or back-up team/support truck.
Note that you don’t have to ride this event on a big bike; Austin says he expects he’ll be on his CRF250L, and reccommends a local rental place if that’s what you want. And while the tracks are all designed to be ridden by a big bike, a small bike will have a much easier time, especially considering the low speed limits on the local roads.
As for costs:
£795 covers all the guiding, picnic lunches, gasoline, hot beverages at elevenses and cokes in the pm. It does NOT include hotel accom, supper and breakfast.
There you have it. If this sounds appealing to you, find more details here.
