Triumph Motorcycles is recalling certain Speed Twin 1200, Speed Twin 1200 RS, and Speed Twin 900 models because their rear turn signal indicators are too close to the tail lights.

Triumph’s Safety Recall Report

Triumph’s Part 573 Safety Recall Report to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says 1,157 motorcycles may be affected.

In its report, Triumph describes the cause of the recall as follows:

“While the required effective light emitting surface area is met independently, the indicators were designed in red, failing to comply with the mandated 4-inch minimum edge separation distance from the rear tail light.”

Describing the potential safety risk, Triumph says:

“Indicators placed in close proximity to the rear brake light may hinder other road users’ ability to accurately assess the rider’s manoeuvres, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.”
